University of Free State Application Admission/ Requirements

For degree studies at the University of the Free State, they expect that:

  • you have an NSC or NCV with an endorsement that allows entrance to degree studies (Bachelor’s degree) or an equivalent
    qualification;
  • you meet all the minimum admission requirements for the programme you intend to study. Meeting the minimum admission
    requirements for your chosen/intended programme of study do not guarantee admission, as limited spaces are available in
    each programme;
  • you have a minimum level of 4 (50%) in English Home Language or English First Additional Language, and
  • you must pass certain school subjects with a minimum level of achievement in order to take a certain university module. For
    example, you must get a mark of 70% for Mathematics in Grade 12 if you plan to study BSc majoring in Physics with Engineering
    subjects. Please refer to the section on the faculty-specific admission requirements, which also includes the respective
    compulsory subjects and achievement levels required per programme.

1. Required documents

Before applying online for selection and admission, please ensure you have the following documents readily available in clearly readable, electronic format:

  • A certified copy of your South African ID document or passport (for foreign applicants)
  • Certified copies of all previous qualification certificates*
  • Certified copies of all previous academic transcripts

Certified copies should not be older than three months at the time of your application. 

Applicants with international qualifications need to provide a SAQA Verification Certificate

Successful applicants will be notified via email on the first week of December. If you do not receive a written acceptance letter via email from the Centre for Environmental Management by the end of December, your application will be unsuccessful.
